John D. Beck
John Beck thrives in the stressful and often chaotic atmosphere inherent in financially distressed situations. His level-headed approach allows him to focus on achieving the best results for his clients despite financial circumstances typically less than ideal. Whether representing debtors or creditors, in or out of court, John works creatively and relentlessly to help his clients turn lemons into lemonade.
John has a wide array of both in and out of court experience, equipping him with the knowledge to achieve economically efficient results for his clients in whatever forum is required. John has engaged in numerous financial restructurings involving, among other things, refinancing senior debt, converting debt to equity, and implementing exchange offers, as well as pre-packaged and pre-negotiated bankruptcy filings. However, because not all distressed situations can be resolved consensually, John also has extensive litigation experience representing both debtors and creditors in bankruptcy and state court proceedings, including chapter 11 bankruptcy and state court enforcement actions.
John's passion for financial restructuring began in law school with a judicial internship for a federal bankruptcy judge, which inspired him to participate in numerous bankruptcy courses and clinics and ultimately resulted in the American College of Bankruptcy naming John its "Outstanding Law Student for the Fifth Circuit." After law school, John had the prestigious honor of serving as Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Phil Johnson of the Supreme Court of Texas. Since that time, John has immersed himself in the exciting world of distressed investment and restructuring and was named a Rising Star for the New York Metro Area by Super Lawyers in 2014 and 2015.
