Hong Kong, 30 May 2016

Sammy Li and Stephen Peepels join capital markets practice in Hong Kong

Hogan Lovells announced today that Sammy Li and Stephen Peepels will join the firm’s capital markets practice within the Hong Kong corporate team. Stephen and Sammy both cover a wide range of capital markets products, spanning the Asia-Pacific region and will significantly enhance the firm’s capabilities in the region. Both partners are recognized leaders in Asia’s capital markets, and have a long term track record of representing leading international and regional investment banks on significant corporate transactions.

Li's practice focusses on IPOs and secondary offerings on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, representing both international and PRC investment banks as well as Chinese issuers. He has completed multiple ECM transactions for Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, UBS, and Bank of Communications International over several years and has frequently worked on mandates for other major investment banks, including CICC and Citigroup.

Peepel’s practice includes both debt and equity financing transactions as well as private equity and M&A transactions, where his markets extend across the Asia-Pacific region including Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and Malaysia.  He is also known for his significant experience in the Indian capital markets, having advised on several of India’s largest securities offerings.

Stephen's recent transactions include acting for Rolta India Limited on its US$200 million high yield bond offering, which was the first Rule 144A bond offering by an Indian company. He also represented Spring REIT in its Hong Kong IPO, led by Credit Suisse.

David Gibbons, global head of the Hogan Lovells Corporate Practice Group, commented:
"The addition of Sammy and Stephen significantly enhances our offering in Hong Kong and the wider Asia-Pacific region. With their strong presence and profile in the market, long term relationships with leading investment banks and extensive deal experience. I am confident that Stephen and Sammy will significantly strengthen our global client offering."

Commenting on the appointments, Patrick Sherrington, regional managing partner, Asia Pacific and the Middle East at Hogan Lovells, said:
"Stephen and Sammy are both well recognized practitioners in the Hong Kong market. They have formidable experience across the capital markets piece, having worked on some of the most high profile transactions in the Asia-Pacific region. Having Stephen's U.S.-facing experience in the region undoubtedly gives us a unique edge and adds capabilities for our clients."

Stephen Peepels commented:
"I have known and respected this firm since my days at the SEC in Washington DC.  I am very enthusiastic to join its well-regarded corporate practice, and contribute to the growing depth and range of clients served by the firm.  Further, I am excited to work together with Sammy Li to move the firm’s Asia-Pacific capital markets practice to the next level."

Sammy Li, added:
"I am excited to be returning to Hogan Lovells having started my career at the firm. The firm has an impressive global presence and it has built a particularly broad practice across the Asia-Pacific market. This prominent presence in the region is a unique platform for me to be working from, and I expect great opportunities to lie ahead for the global corporate practice and the firm."

Li joins from Paul Hastings and Peepels from DLA Piper.
