Hogan Lovells Partner and Client Win 2015 Flex Success Award

18 March 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C., 18 March 2015 – Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that Washington, D.C. partner Joy Sturm and her Pfizer Inc. colleagues, Debbie Walters-Francique (Vice President & Assistant General Counsel) and Sabrina Yohai (Assistant General Counsel), have been honored by the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance with a Flex Success Award for 2015.
Each year, the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance presents its Flex Success Award to law firm partners working reduced-hours and flexible schedules, along with the clients that are integral to making workplace flexibility a reality.
“I am honored to receive this award along with my client, Pfizer, and two outstanding women on the Pfizer legal team with whom I work closely — Debbie Walters-Francique and Sabrina Yohai,” said Sturm.  “It is a true privilege to be a partner at Hogan Lovells, where I’ve had the opportunity to develop a vibrant law practice while working a flexible, reduced-hours schedule. I could not have gotten to this point without first-rate clients like Pfizer who embody the same ideals as we do.”

Sturm, a partner in the Government Regulatory practice group, has been with Hogan Lovells for 18 years, the last 13 of which she has worked a reduced-hours schedule.

“We are very proud of Joy’s success. She serves as an exceptional role model within and outside of the firm, demonstrating a path to success while working flexibly and proving that client service need not be impacted by such arrangements,” said Washington, D.C. Regional Managing Partner Emily M. Yinger. “Her strong client relationship with Pfizer exemplifies that attorney-client partnerships can thrive with lawyers using flexible schedules when communication and excellent service go hand-in-hand.”
Sturm represents life sciences clients — primarily pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies — on federal procurement matters. Her clients range from Fortune 500 pharmaceutical companies to start-up medical device and biologics companies working toward launching their first products. Much of her practice involves federal contract-related investigations, contract compliance audits and associated policy manual development, counseling, and regulatory diligence in connection with government contractor mergers and acquisitions.
Sturm is the co-author with Hogan Lovells colleagues of an extensive monograph titled, "Selling Pharmaceuticals and Biologics to the Federal Government: Federal Supply Schedule and Federal Pricing Requirements," which is considered a leading treatise in the federal drug procurement area.

Since the inception of the Flex Success Award in 2009, Sturm is the third Hogan Lovells lawyer to receive it. In 2013, Washington, D.C.-based partner Eve Howard, and Susan Herlick, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary at Orbital Sciences Corporation, were honored. In 2011, Alice Valder Curran, a Washington, D.C.-based partner, and Dorothy Watson, General Counsel of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, were recognized.

The Diversity & Flexibility Alliance is a national forum dedicated to the promotion and retention of women lawyers and work/life control for all lawyers.
