Hogan Lovells Advised Fudan University on online course development on a leading MOOC Learning Platform
SHANGHAI, 16 May 2016 – Hogan Lovells has advised Fudan University, one of the most prestigious universities in China, on its negotiation with the provider of a leading UK-based Massive Open Online Courses ("MOOC") learning platform, for the offering of its online courses.
Fudan University is one of the two China universities with courses offered on the platform. Hogan Lovells advised Fudan University on the overall agreements and the related intellectual property issues.
The Hogan Lovells team was led by Eugene Low (Partner, Hong Kong), supported by Chang Yu-an (Senior Associate, Shanghai) and Valerie Suen (Associate, Hong Kong).
The cross-border element and emerging education technologies dealt with in this matter perfectly testify that education institutions operate in an environment more complex, intense, and variable than in bygone days. Education institutions face keen competition, increased internationalism, and fast-paced technological opportunities and risks. Hogan Lovells is attuned to these issues and has an established team of lawyers in China (and certainly in other parts of the global market) to advise and represent education institutions from regulatory compliance and transactional negotiation to intellectual property protection and representation in disputes.
