Matthias Siebels advises on all aspects of intellectual property rights with a special focus on patent law and patent litigation. He primarily focuses on technical IP rights (patents and utility models), in particular in the fields of telecommunication, medical devices, mechanics, as well as chemicals.

The focus of his work is on national and multi-jurisdictional patent infringement litigation and parallel validity proceedings. Additionally, his knowledge and experience cover IP licensing and questions relating to standard-essential patents.

Matthias has worked on several UPC-related projects; he has coordinated the Tilmann/Plassmann UPC Commentary, advised on UPC strategy, and participated in testing the official UPC Case Management System. He is currently setting up Hogan Lovells and their clients for success before the UPC.

As a Counsel Knowledge Lawyer, Matthias helps the Patents Team increase efficiency and navigate the world of patents, with a strong focus on the UPC. He is highly knowledgeable about technology and new tools, ensuring that the team stays at the forefront of innovation.

Before joining Hogan Lovells as an associate in October 2015, Matthias studied law at the University of Münster with a particular focus on intellectual property rights, telecommunication, and media law.
