Matthias Siebels advises on all aspects of intellectual property rights with a special focus on patent law and patent litigation. He primarily focuses on technical IP rights (patents and utility models), in particular in the fields of telecommunication, medical devices, mechanics as well as chemicals.
The focus of his work is on national and multi-jurisdictional patent infringement litigation and parallel validity proceedings. Additionally, his knowledge and experience cover IP licensing and questions relating to standard-essential patents.
Matthias has worked on several UPC related projects; he has coordinated the Tilmann/Plassmann UPC Commentary, advised on UPC strategy and participated in testing the official UPC Case Management System. He is currently setting up Hogan Lovells and their clients for success before the UPC.
Before joining Hogan Lovells as an associate in October 2015, Matthias studied law at the university of Münster with a particular focus on intellectual property rights, telecommunication and media law. During his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court Düsseldorf, he worked for Hogan Lovells in New York and Düsseldorf as well as for the German Embassy in Singapore.
