Chris Green leads Hogan Lovells’ corporate team in Johannesburg and has experience in advising local, regional and multinational clients on complex local and cross-border M&A transactions across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Chris’s practice focuses on blue chip cross-border corporate M&A work across various sectors, but with a particular focus on energy and natural resources, consumer goods, financial services and telecommunications.
Chris has a strong market reputation for advising local, pan-African and multinational clients on their aspirations for growth in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Representative experience
Advised FMO on its equity co-investment with a private equity firm, through a Mauritian SPV, into Merensky Timber, a leading integrated timber plantation and processing companies in South Africa.
Advised FMO on its equity co-investment along-side AIIF4 and IDEAS funds managed by African Infrastructure Investment Managers into Commercial Cold Holdings Limited.
Advising All4Labels GmbH on its proposed acquisition of First Impression Labels, the leading South African producer of product labels, from Blackstar Holdings (part of the Hirt & Carter Group).
Advising Fortis Green Renewables Investment Management, in its capacity as fund manager of Green Fund I, in relation to the proposed acquisition of a solar power plant in Africa.
Advised International Finance Corporation (IFC) in relation to its US$30 million investment in West Indian Ocean Cable Company Holding Ltd (WIOCC Group).
Advised SOLA Group on the corporate aspects of the first 100MW private power projects in South Africa to generate power for Tronox Mineral Sands’ mining operations at five South African facilities.
Advised Ganfeng Lithium Co. Ltd. on its proposed acquisition of the Bikita Minerals mine, one of the largest lithium mines in Zimbabwe (transaction subsequently abandoned).*
Advised CDC Group Plc in relation to the Tanzanian aspects of its US$180 million equity investment in Liquid Telecom.*
Advised AB InBev in respect of its disposal of a majority interest in one of the largest soft drinks bottler in Africa.*
