Providing Advice on Shark Hunting
Our Dubai office provided pro bono advice to Global Ocean, a London-based environmental charity that focuses on marine conservation. Part of Global Ocean's work involves raising awareness of the environmental impact of the international trade in shark fins, which poses a dramatic threat to the continued existence of various species of shark.
Our team was instructed by Global Ocean to provide a comprehensive overview of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) laws and regulations, which regulate the trade in shark fins. We provided a detailed advice note on the law restricting the hunting of sharks, legislation implemented to effect the UAE's signature to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, Federal and Emirate trade regulations; and wider advice on possible future developments concerning the import and export of shark fins through the UAE.
