Protecting women's rights

Our Mexico City office undertook a research project for Nossas, a women-led laboratory for civic engagement and activism in Latin America, which develops methodology and technology to equip young citizens to impact policy making. Mexico has been rated as one of the most violent countries in the world for women. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography in Mexico (INEGI) 66 percent of all women in Mexico aged 15 years and older will experience violence in their lifetimes.

We assisted Nossas in developing a brief comparative analysis that included research of the different laws, regulations and court cases that have been implemented in Mexico that have resulted in the protection of women’s rights and that work towards the elimination of gender-based violence. Specifically, we focused on impact litigation cases and the effects of these cases on the laws of the different jurisdictions in Mexico.

This research includes the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, International Legal Framework as well as Federal Law. This research will be shared with other nonprofits in Mexico that are members of the Red contra la Violencia de Género MX (Network against Gender Violence MX) and will be used as a reference for legal research in the issue to combat gender violence in Mexico.
