Getting a jump start on pro bono

On July 18, 2019, the Miami office hosted the 9th Annual "Getting a Jump Start on Pro Bono" event.

The event, hosted in partnership with Dade Legal Aid, was geared towards summer associates as well as judicial interns from both federal and state court. The focus of the evening was to encourage summer associates to participate in pro bono legal services as they jump start their legal careers, and to emphasize the impact lawyers can have in giving back to the community in unique and important ways.

After an introduction by partner Al Lindsay, our pro bono coordinator, we heard from the Honorable Chief Judge Kevin Emas (Third District Court of Appeals), Honorable Samantha Ruiz Cohen (Eleventh Judicial Circuit), Honorable Vivianne Del Rio (Eleventh Judicial Circuit), Honorable Gina Beovides (Associate Administrative Judge, County Court, Eleventh Judicial Circuit), Honorable Richard Suarez (Retired), and Honorable Stanford Blake (Retired) on topics such as "why do pro bono," "what lawyers who are taking on pro bono cases should keep in mind," "how to take on a pro bono case," and "how to make the most of the pro bono opportunities available to associates starting out their legal careers."

The presentation concluded with a few words from Dade Legal Aid's Director Karen Ladis. She presented Hogan Lovells with a certificate of appreciation for our continued support of the organization (celebrating its 70th year of service to the community) and for hosting this event. She followed up the next day with a heartfelt note of thanks.
