New York and Los Angeles – 27 May 2021 – Global law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that International Financial Law Review (IFLR) Americas recognized two transactions the firm advised as Deals of the Year in its Debt and Equity-Linked and Loans categories. The firm was also shortlisted in seven categories, and two Team of the Year categories.

The winner of the Debt and Equity Linked Deal of the Year, was the US$17.4 billion restructuring of national debt on behalf of the Republic of Ecuador. The transaction, which closed in August 2020, helped the country complete one of the largest international restructurings after its economy and export earnings were severely impacted by low oil prices and the COVID-19 pandemic. The Hogan Lovells team represented the Republic of Ecuador and was led by partners Evan Koster and Ron Silverman in New York, and Bruno Ciuffetelli in Houston.

The winner of Loans Deal of the Year, went to the million debtor-in-possession financing facility to LATAM Airlines. Hogan Lovells advised Knighthead Capital Management, LLC as lender. The deal was completed in September 2020, and the Hogan Lovells team was led by Los Angeles partners David Simonds and former partner Stacey Rosenberg.
