Building Safety Act 2022: What you need to know

This two part webinar series explored the Building Safety Act 2022.

The Building Safety Act has radically overhauled the approach to fire safety in the construction and management of residential property.

Our market leading construction and real estate litigation teams highlighted some key “need to knows” for developers and investors in a two part webinar series held in September. We were joined by Dr. David Crowder of DCCH Experts, a leading expert in fire safety investigation and building compliance.

Part 1: Developer Focus

Tuesday, 13 September (9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.)

Developers and contractors need to get to grips with the new processes and requirements to achieve fire safety compliance for new developments. As if that isn’t enough, the Act gives additional teeth to building regulations, with a new duty to comply, and promises a programme of updates to Approved Document B. Newly extended limitation periods also threaten to extend liability far beyond typical warranty periods.

Part 2: Investor Focus

Tuesday, 20 September (9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.)

From an investment perspective, asset managers will be concerned with new duties on accountable persons and leaseholders, extended liability periods for claims against contractors and limitations on service charge recovery for fire safety works.
