European Green Deal

Webinar - Fit for 55

Following the UN2030 Agenda and the Paris climate agreement, the EU Green Deal has been presented by the Commission as a growth strategy aiming to make Europe the first climate neutral continent by 2050. In April 2021 the European Parliament and Council reached a provisional agreement on the Commission’s proposal for a European Climate Law which aims to transform this goal into a binding legal obligation.

In this context, the European Commission will propose a “Fit for 55” legislative package on July 14 to update the EU’s climate and energy laws and put the EU on track to meet its 2030 climate target of reducing net greenhouse gas emission by at least 55% compared to levels in 1990.

We have invited Niels Schuster, Coordinator of the Green Deal in the DG Climate, European Commission, to share insights on the elaboration and functioning of a package of legislation that is deemed to be a key milestone in the EU’s fight against climate change and Joao Serrano Gomes, EU ETS Policy Officer in the DG Climate, European Commission, to share insights on the EU ETS revision proposal as key instrument in the Fit for 55 package.
