Grace is counsel in our banking and payments team. She has particular knowledge of payments regulation across all sectors of the payments industry including card issuance, e-money, online payments and merchant acquiring. She works with the full spectrum of payment service providers, e-money issuers and alternative payment model providers both in the UK and on a global basis.
Grace advises on the implications of regulatory requirements for all aspects of our clients' businesses, such as structuring advice, compliance with the payment services and the e-money regimes, implementation of new legislation, commercial deals like BIN sponsorship or outsourcing arrangements, and technical issues such as strong customer authentication advice and secure communications. Grace has a particular interest in alternative payment structures and corporate payment models.
Representative experience
Advised a global bank on the launch of a new merchant acquiring business across 35 markets, including drafting commercial documentation and tailored advice to the business on the relevant legal issues
Advised card issuers on integrating wallet capability into their product offering
Advised a global e-money issuer in respect of the legal and regulatory issues of expanding their operations internationally
Advised clients on navigating the legal framework in relation to online payment platforms and payment facilitation structures
Advised clients on all aspects of card issuance and the relevant commercial documentation
Advised clients on how the requirements of the MLD4/5 apply to their business model
