Russell Green has a wide-ranging banking practice, with a particular focus on aviation and asset finance. His aviation clients include airlines, leasing companies, funds and banks and he has acted on a wide range of aviation finance products, including operating leases, sale and leasebacks, EETCs, JOLCOs, capital markets issuances, US and European export credit agency supported financing and PDP financing. Russell advises on other asset classes as well, particularly rail and shipping.

In recent years, Russell has been particularly involved in the firm's Africa Finance practice and has considerable experience in advising lenders to the telecoms, aviation and hotel sectors in a variety of African jurisdictions.

In addition, he advises banks and corporates on operational banking products and related regulatory matters, and in particular liquidity management and cash pooling and facilities provided in connection with clearing and settlement systems.

Russell has completed secondments with Barclays and, more recently, with the restructuring team at Lloyds Banking Group, where he worked on the management and disposal of the bank's portfolio of shipping assets. Russell has also spent six months on secondment to the firm's Tokyo office and speaks Japanese proficiently.

Representative experience

Advising Norwegian Air on a number of financings, including their first EETC, and various PDP financings, private placements, U.S. Ex-Im financings and sale-and-leasebacks.

Advising African Export-Import Bank, IDC, and DBSA on $315m financing of telecoms equipment and roll-out of 4G mobile technology in Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and DRC.

Advising FBN Bank and African Export-Import Bank on the financing of the development and operation of the first international grade hotel in Sierra Leone.

Advising African Export-Import Bank and DEG, the German development financial institution, in relation to $330m financing of a mobile telecommunications project in Zimbabwe and Burundi.

Advising a major financial institution on their cash pooling products and on clearing and settlement arrangements such as CREST.
Advising SMBC Leasing on the acquisition, financing, and leasing of fleet of 70 new trains manufactured by Hitachi and operated on the ScotRail network.

Advising Vietnam Airlines on the U.S. Ex-Im financing of their first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.

Advising Jackson Square on operating leases to airlines located in Australia, the UAE, Brazil and the United States.
Advising private office of an ultra-high net worth individual in the Middle East on the financing, operation, and VIP conversion of fleet of aircraft.

Advising Natixis on the restructuring of a financing of two ATR 72-500 aircraft for an Irish airline.

Advising Norwegian Air on the creation of their captive aircraft leasing/ asset management company.
