Keeping Louisville's bluegrass green
Our Green Team in Kentucky is making changes around the office.
When we opened our Global Business Center in Louisville, the facility did not offer onsite recycling. Some of our colleagues started taking bags of materials designated for recycling to their homes for recycling pick up. Based on the growth of the office, it didn’t take long for that approach to become unmanageable.
Given the firm’s commitment to the environment, we took a more creative approach and developed a Citizenship activity. We located a university property nearby that had a sorted recycling center and set out to form a “Green Team” within the office. Today, the volunteer Green Team is active sorting and transporting a variety of recyclables that would otherwise have made their way to landfills.
While the initiative started as a basic program, focused on paper, aluminum, and plastic, the Green Team has already started looking for other green initiatives around the office, such as eliminating paper products in the break room and changing to rechargeable batteries.
