Employers should take steps now to prepare for compliance with the ACA's employer mandate in 2014

Employers that might be large enough to have to extend health coverage to their full-time employees under the so-called “shared responsibility” or “employer mandate” provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) should consider beginning to count the hours that their variable-hour employees work by April 2, 2013, in order to determine whether those employees will be considered full-time when the requirement goes into effect January 1, 2014.
