China and Latin America: Underscoring a vital connection
During the last ten years, the commercial relationship between Latin American emerging markets and China has increased significantly. For instance, Chinese loan commitments to the region increased from US$231 million in 2005 to US$22.1 billion in 2014, and trade between China and Latin America increased from US$10 billion in 2000 to US$257 billion in 2013. Currently, China is the main commercial partner of several Latin American countries, surpassing traditional partners, such as the United States and Europe, in numerous aspects.
