United Nations Global Compact recognizes Regan Leahy of Hogan Lovells as a 2019 SDG Pioneer
London, 25 September — This week, the United Nations Global Compact recognized Regan Leahy, Assistant Manager, Citizenship, at Hogan Lovells, as one of ten 2019 SDG Pioneers — business leaders, who are using business as a force for good to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2019 SDG Pioneers were recognized as part of the UN Global Compact Leaders Week at the UN Headquarters in New York.
These SDG Pioneers were judged by an expert panel comprised representatives of government, business and civil society. The selection criteria included the individuals' commitment to embedding the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact into their companies' core strategies, their efforts to advance the SDGs, as well as their engagement with the UN Global Compact and its Local Networks.
The SDG Pioneers programme is part of the UN Global Compact Making Global Goals Local Business campaign. In 2019, the search for SDG Pioneers focused on young professionals, aged 35 and under, working at any level in a company participating in the UN Global Compact, who are advancing the SDGs through their work.
“Four years in, it is clear that progress on the Sustainable Development Goals is much slower than it should be,” said Lise Kingo, CEO and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact. “By recognizing and encouraging young business leaders who are driving transformative solutions in their respective sectors, we have the opportunity to drive truly systemic change and shift the world onto a more sustainable path.”
“I am honoured and humbled to receive this award for my work with the team at Hogan Lovells in helping to achieve the Global Goals with Barefoot College. The Barefoot solar mamas who bring light and learning to their communities are the true SDG Pioneers and by working with them, I learned to be one too,” said Regan, Assistant Manager, Citizenship at Hogan Lovells.
Hogan Lovells has been a member of the United Nations' Global Compact (UNGC), the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative with nearly 10,000 companies as voluntary signatories, since 2015. The UN Global Compact calls on companies to align strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and take actions that advance societal goals. In the United Kingdom, over 200 companies and non-business organizations have joined the initiative, and Global Compact Network UK has supported their efforts to advance sustainable business practices since 2004.
