Awards & rankings | 02 March 2022

Global law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that four of the firm’s practices were named among Law360’s “Practice Groups of the Year.” The firm’s International Trade, Real Estate, Sports, and Trials teams were recognized for their outstanding achievements throughout 2021.

Now in its 12th year, Law360’s Practice Groups of the Year honors the legal teams behind the litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry this past year. The winners were picked from almost 900 entries.

This marks the second consecutive year that Hogan Lovells’ International Trade and Investment team was recognized. Among its most notable successes, the team represented LG Energy Solution through a multi-year trade secret dispute over electric vehicle batteries resulting in a US$1.8 billion settlement, and represented Philadelphia-based auto parts supplier Cardone and its Mexican subsidiary Tridonex before several U.S. government agencies in one of the first known uses of the Rapid Response Labor Mechanism, a novel component of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. The team’s full profile is here.

In Real Estate, the firm was recognized following a series of groundbreaking – and blockbuster - deals in the REIT market. These transactions included guiding VICI Properties through its US$17.2 billion stock-for-stock acquisition of MGM Growth Properties, which will create the largest owner of experiential real estate in the country, and QTS in its US$10 billion cash sale to The Blackstone Group, one of the largest data center transactions in history. The team’s full profile is here.

The firm’s Sports practice was recognized for the second time in three years. Among its most notable achievements were leading MLS franchise Inter Miami in a complex recapitalization and partial buyout, advising Anschutz Entertainment Group on the sale of a minority interest in the Los Angeles Lakers to Los Angeles Dodgers owners, Mark Walter and Todd Boehly, guiding sports investment firm Arctos Sports Partners in a groundbreaking investment in the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, and advising the San Antonio Spurs in an recapitalization and investment from Michael Dell’s family partnership and Sixth Street Capital. The team’s full profile is here.

The Trials team was selected for victories including a highly significant win over the Federal Trade Commission regarding a proposed merger between Albert Einstein Healthcare and Jefferson Healthcare, two Philadelphia-area hospital companies. Elsewhere, the firm’s litigators won a major trade secrets trial in Texas that resulted in a damages verdict in excess of US$150 million. In addition, the team secured a US$113 million jury verdict on behalf of two brothers wrongly convicted of murder and imprisoned for more than 20 years – the largest wrongful conviction verdict in US history.
