Hogan Lovells receives Mansfield Rule 3.0 certification for exceeding key diversity and inclusion standards

Washington, D.C., 22 September 2020 – International law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that the firm has achieved Mansfield Certification 3.0 for 2020, just two years after committing to the Mansfield Rule 2.0.

The Mansfield Rule 2.0 measures which law firms are committed to measuring, tracking, and improving the composition of women, minority, and LGBT+ candidates for lateral hiring, senior leadership positions, and business development activities. The certification is given by Diversity Lab, an organization that promotes creative ideas and solutions to boost diversity in the legal profession.

Hogan Lovells signed on to the new Mansfield Rule 3.0 and became one of five pilot firms which volunteered to take on a more intensive tracking process over the last year.

The Mansfield Rule was adapted from the National Football League's Rooney Rule, which requires NFL teams to interview at least one minority candidate for a head coach or general manager position. It was further developed after 2016's Women in Law Hackathon, organized by Diversity Lab and its CEO, Caren Ulrich Stacy.

Susan Bright, Global Managing Partner for Diversity & Inclusion and Responsible Business, said: "Delivering on our commitments to Diversity & Inclusion is one of Hogan Lovells' five strategic priorities. We are proud of this certification as a marker which builds on our work. We will continue to strive to attract diverse talent to the firm at all levels and to increase diversity throughout our business, particularly at partner level."

Bendita Cynthia Malakia, Global Diversity & Inclusion Lead, said: "Mansfield Certification authoritatively signals that we are serious about ensuring a robust pipeline to partnership and leadership. Some clients require it to be a part of their panels, which proves the business case for diversity. The talent we recruit use it as a benchmark to differentiate us from other firms. In a global firm of people with different backgrounds, Mansfield Certification provides a common language to serve as a catalyst to advance diversity at our firm."

The certification is just one of the firm's several recent diversity and inclusion achievements. In 2020, we were ranked among the top global LGBT+ employers by Stonewall, and placed in its Top 100 Employers Workplace Equality Index over ten consecutive years. The firm also achieved a 100% score on the Corporate Equality Index for 11 consecutive years, from 2010 to 2020, according to the Human Rights Campaign, and named a "Top Firm for Gender Equity and Family Friendly Policies," by Yale Law Women.
