London; Washington, D.C.; 10 January 2020 – Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce Dan Norris as the new global Real Estate practice area leader effective 1 January 2020. He succeeds incumbent Jackie Newstead who had held the role since 2014 and whose term of office has expired. She will continue advising her clients and remain as global Head of our Real Estate industry sector group. Oliver Chamberlain will replace Dan as Head of UK Real Estate.

Dan, who became a partner at the firm 12 years ago and has been UK Real Estate Head since 2016, acts for domestic and international investors on all types of real estate assets, and for developers and funders. He has worked and led on some of the biggest real estate deals in the UK and in Europe over the last decade including the sale of GE's real estate business to Blackstone, acquiring and developing London's newest skyscraper at 40 Leadenhall, Bankside, Rio Rosas 26 in Madrid, Snowhill 2 and Snowhill 3, St James's Market, Rushden Lakes, 20 Gresham Street, and Bloomberg Place. Other clients include M&G Real Estate, The Crown Estate, and Aberdeen Standard.

Dan said: "I am delighted to have been appointed as the new global Head, and I look forward to continuing to grow our practice, building on our excellent international reputation. While the market strives to keep pace with changes within the macro- and micro- political climates, technological changes continue to evolve the way we work and the ways in which deals can be done. Sustainability is a recurring theme in international real estate with an increasing legislative and corporate drive towards smarter buildings delivering a greener working and living environment. That trend is only likely to increase with the innovative use of technology playing its part as a catalyst for change."

In addition, partner Hannah Quarterman will lead the UK planning team. Hannah joined the firm in 2008 and has a broad range of experience on all planning-related issues and CPO, with particular experience in large mixed-use or residential-led schemes, heritage-related issues, community infrastructure levy, negotiating section 106 agreements, and village greens and highways.

Commenting on the appointment, Dan said: "We are fully committed to our strong planning practice, both as part of the wider real estate offering that our top-tier practice offers clients, but also as a standalone, market-leading team. Hannah is an excellent fit to take the planning practice forward; she has a well-earned, terrific highly regarded reputation in the market, working with leading developers, and I look forward to working with her more in 2020 and beyond."

David Gibbons, Global Head of Hogan Lovells Corporate practice group added: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jackie for her exemplary leadership over the last six years and for her significant contribution to our Corporate practice over the years.

"Our Real Estate practice is critical to our global business and has gone from strength to strength under her leadership. Helping clients on some of the most complex and transformative transactions, it is now the firm's fourth largest industry sector group by billings."
