Melissa provides clients with creative and outside the box solutions, focusing on both criminal investigations and complex commercial litigation. In addition to her excellent legal skills, Melissa is a “people person” and uses those skills to understand her clients and help them through their most sensitive matters.  

Melissa’s practice covers a wide cross section of the law, including conducting internal investigations, as well as representing companies and individuals in complex commercial litigation. She has handled investigations stemming from various federal and state agencies.  Melissa has also litigated cases in both state and federal courts around the country, in commercial disputes and class actions. She has a broad background in antitrust litigation, contract disputes, class actions, business torts, securities litigation, product liability and environmental litigation. She also has significant experience within the alcohol beverage industry.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Melissa was an associate in the Miami and New York offices of an international law firm. While in law school, she gained valuable experience as a judicial intern for the Honorable Marvin Garbis in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland and honed her writing skills as an editor for the Maryland Law Review.

Representative experience

Represented a cement and concrete manufacturer in an antitrust case, obtaining denial of class certification.

Defended alcohol beverage manufacturer in product liability action.

Obtained summary judgment in favor of alcohol beverage manufacturer in claims relating to the termination of a distribution agreement.

Assisted law department of a major beverage manufacturer in the coordination and oversight of international litigation and agency investigations.

Defended large manufacturers of ink and ink-related products in an action brought by a customer for more than US$2m, plus punitive damages.

Represented defendant in CERCLA cost-recovery action, obtained summary judgment and sanctions award of attorneys' fees and exclusion of evidence.

Representing a pharmaceutical company in a federal investigation as well as parallel civil litigation involving alleged price fixing.

Represented a cement and concrete manufacturer in connection with DOJ investigation of alleged price fixing. 

Represented major beverage manufacturer in connection with DOJ antitrust subpoena.
