VII Seminario Internacional de Arbitraje de Inversión

On September 23-24, Juan Garcia moderated two panels at the VII Seminario Internacional de Arbitraje de Inversión in Santiago, Chile.

The first panel "Arbitraje y Corrupción: Transparencia vs Confidencialidad" discussed illegality and corruption as a defense in investor-state arbitration cases and highlighted recent trends regarding whether illegality is a jurisdictional or admissibility issue under the ICSID Convention. The second panel "La jurisdicción del Centro Internacional de Arreglo de Diferencias sobre Inversiones (Centro CIADI), según el Convenio CIADI" discussed the jurisdictional hurdles that defendant states must overcome in order to present counter-claims under the ICSID Convention and proposed reforms to balance the equities between investors and states.

This was the seventh annual seminar hosted by Instituto Peruano de Arbitraje (IPA) and co-hosted by the Centro de Arbitraje y Mediación (CAM) Cámara de Comercio de Santiago Chile. The event was attended by over 200 arbitration leaders and professionals throughout Latin America.
