Derrick focuses his practice on all areas of debt financing, with a particular emphasis on event driven financing, real estate financing and fund financing. 

Based in Hong Kong with extensive experience working in the London office of Hogan Lovells, he regularly acts for credit funds, distressed funds and bank lenders on a wide range of financing situations, including special situations lending and consensual debt workouts and restructuring.

Derrick has a good understanding of the commercial realities of debt financing transactions and has worked as an in-house legal counsel at a major investment bank. Advising a leading Asia Real Estate Fund on its hybrid capital call facility to fund its investments and working capital needs.

Advising a leading Hong Kong investment manager on its debt investments in the PRC, including a term loan to a PRC education business.

Advising an ad hoc committee on the restructuring of the US$200 million notes issued by Yestar Healthcare Holdings Company Limited, a leading medical consumables and equipment operating in the PRC.

Advising an ad hoc committee on the restructuring of the US$500 million notes issued by GCL New Energy Holdings Limited, a leading solar power operating company in the PRC.

Advising ARCH Capital on a facility to refinance its acquisition of a commercial real estate in Hong Kong.

Advising Gaw Capital on a facility to finance the renovation and re-branding of The InterContinental Hong Kong into the Regent Hotel.

Advising Madison Pacific as club facility agent in respect of the ongoing restructuring of the China Fishery Group under Chapter 11 proceedings and a UK restructuring plan.
