Charles Clayton-Payne

Senior Associate

Charles Clayton-Payne

Recognised as an 'Associate to watch' in Chambers and Partners Asia-Pacific and Chambers and Partners Global, Charles trained and qualified in the acquisition finance team in the London office.

Here he spent three years advising banks and non-bank lenders supporting pan-European private equity backed leveraged buy-outs. These years coincided with the initial banking crisis, and whilst his new lending practice grew, Charles also gained significant experience in restructuring debt terms on private equity portfolio investments. Working in London at the heart of the European private acquisition market, Charles worked amidst a wide range of industry sectors: technology, media and telecommunications; high street and online consumer retail; hotels and leisure; automotive; commercial real estate and education.

In 2012, Charles relocated to the Singapore office to assist in the establishment of Hogan Lovells' Singapore banking team. He maintains a focus advising on private equity backed leveraged buy-outs but his practice now spans to include corporate acquisitions, structured lending and syndicated lending across Asia-Pacific. He advises banks and private equity teams structuring investments across various geographies - including India, Indonesia, Cambodia and Malaysia – in a broad range of industry sectors - including energy, infrastructure, real estate and manufacturing.
