Thomas Petrie tackles sophisticated transactional matters with a passion for drafting and excellent attention to detail. With a focus on intellectual property, technology and general commercial transactions, Thomas approaches complex contracts with legal and business goals in mind.

Thomas works on an array of contracts—including IP and technology licensing agreements, proprietary information and invention assignment agreements, customer, vendor and reseller agreements, software development agreements, IP-related acquisition, collaboration and joint venture agreements and consumer-facing terms and conditions related to sweepstakes, contests and other promotions. Prior to joining the firm, Thomas served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Timothy M. Tymkovich of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and the Honorable John L. Kane of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.

Thomas’s drive to produce exceptional legal work began in law school, where he graduated at the top of his class. Thomas also served as the President of the University of Colorado Law School's Business and Tax Law Association and as an associate member of the University of Colorado Law Review.

Representative experience

Represented the commercial and technology procurement groups of a Fortune 500 company in multimillion-dollar domestic and international transactions.

Represented a software vendor in the negotiation of a multimillion-dollar purchasing and licensing transaction with the commercial procurement group of a Fortune 50 company.

Represented an alcoholic beverage company with licensing, supply, manufacturing, packaging, warehousing, sales, and distribution agreements with respect to trademarks, trade dress and trade secrets.

Represented the buyer of an NFL team with respect to IP and sponsorship issues.

Represented an NFL team in connection with a variety of commercial transactions, including broadcast agreements and IP and technology licensing agreements.

Represented a U.S. movie theatre chain in a variety of sweepstakes, contests and other promotional matters.

Represented a digital theatrical content delivery vendor in transactions involving the procurement, use and maintenance of satellite and terrestrial media distribution technologies.

Represented a public policy research and advisory services vendor in transactions involving in-bound and out-bound IP licenses.
