Key Takeaways | Recent U.S. Department of Education Financial Value Transparency and Gainful Employment Rule

The United States Department of Education (ED) recently released its Financial Value Transparency (FVT) and Gainful Employment (GE) final rule, which, according to ED, offers students effective protections against “unaffordable debt” and “insufficient earnings.” The rule includes a revamped GE program accountability framework and a new FVT framework, introducing updated metrics and reporting requirements applicable to all higher education institutions. The GE accountability and FVT reporting provisions will go into effect on 1 July 2024, and the first official financial outcome rates will be published in early 2025.

Please join members of Hogan Lovells’ Education team on Tuesday, 24 October as they discuss key aspects of the new rule and steps to take to prepare for compliance.
