Brexit 2020 Webinar Series – Webinar 1: The Outlook for 2020

As we enter 2020, this new decade begins where the last left off, with Brexit. However, it is now almost impossible to imagine that the United Kingdom will not leave the European Union on 31 January 2020.

Focus turns to negotiating the future trading relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union. As we say in our 13 December blog on the election result, it is unprecedented for a trade deal of this size to be negotiated within 11 months, or anything like that time frame.

A slimmed-down deal could be struck before the end of the year, with further agreements struck over the years to follow. Alternatively, an extension will be needed, despite the prime minister's insistence this will not happen. Or a no-deal relationship will be the default.

For business, this means uncertainty. So the Hogan Lovells team is presenting a series of webinars to keep you informed on all things Brexit and to give you guidance on how you can prepare for change and engage and influence the United Kingdom's future trading, legal, and regulatory positions.

This webinar focused on answering questions about the status of Brexit and what happens next:

  • What happens on 31 January and on 31 December 2020?
  • Can we still have a hard Brexit?
  • How does the government's domestic agenda impact my business?
  • What does this mean for my current transactions and contracts?
