SVILPA and JPAA joint event: Japanese patent law and practice, including the impact of AI

A Discussion of Current Issues Impacting Japanese Patent Practice, Including Successful Case Studies of Patenting in Japan and Influences of AI on the Japanese Patent Industry

This program will cover a variety of topics about Japanese patent law and practice with in-person presentation by Mr. Jihoon Yoon and Ms. Akiko Kurawaki of the Japan Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA) and a remote presentation by Mr. Takuya Tanabu of Japan Patent Office (JPO). The presentations will be followed by a Q&A, and a reception.

Topics will include:

  • Overview of Japanese Patent Prosecution, including Recent Updates and Practical Tips.
  • Case Study of using Patents to Expand your Business in Japan.
  • Influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the Japanese and Korean patent industry.

Speakers

Jin-Hoon Yoon is a member of the JPAA, and is a Japanese and Korean Patent Attorney. He will be joining us in person to discuss the influences of AI on the patent industry in Japan and Korea.

Akiko Kurawaki is a member of the JPAA, and a Japanese Patent Attorney. She will be joining us in person to discuss an overview of Japanese patent prosecution, including recent updates and practical tips.

Takuya Tanabu is an employee of the Japanese Patent Office, and will be discussing “File Patents, expand your business in Japan: successful cases by obtaining patents in Japan." Mr. Tanabu will be joining us virtually.
