Big changes in the Big Apple: Employment and Privacy law updates from New York

Several recent legislative developments in New York City and New York state will impact employers throughout 2022 and beyond. In this event, we discussed these changes, with a focus on the intersection between employment law and privacy implications – such as employee monitoring, using AI in the hiring process, compensation, medical information, and whistleblower protections. It is essential that all New York employers comply with these legislative changes to avoid penalties. The panelists highlighted what companies must do as a result of these developments.

On March 23, 2022, our Employment and Privacy teams held a virtual CLE event that focused on these new laws in New York City and New York state that have wide-ranging implications for companies that recruit from or have employees in this jurisdiction.

Our cross-practice team examined the below issues, from both an employment and privacy perspective:

  • AI-enabled employment decisions and bias concerns
  • Electronic monitoring of employees
  • Expanded New York whistleblower protections
  • Salary ranges for open positions
  • NY Hero Act updates
  • Updates on COVID-19/sick leave
