Chantal advises on all aspects of data protection and cybersecurity to a wide variety of major international and domestic companies, including (global) data protection and cybersecurity strategies, international transfer strategies, global data retention strategies, e-commerce, marketing, cookie compliance and medical apps. She identifies possibilities and risks and advises on creative and innovative solutions.

Chantal has in-depth knowledge in advising major international and domestic companies with cyber incident preparedness and response and assisting with regulatory enforcement actions following cyber incidents. During her one-year secondment with a major international company in the technology sector, Chantal handled many cyber incidents, managed communications with regulatory authorities and affected individuals of cyber incidents and assisted with minimizing the impact on the business. 

Chantal is experienced in giving in-house training in matters concerning GDPR compliance and cybersecurity. She teaches privacy and cybersecurity at various institutes, including at Institute for International Research and at CPO University of Nijmegen. 

Representative experience

Conducting and coordinating word wide data protection compliance review, such as for companies in the travel sector covering more than 50 countries.
Advising on and implementing Binding Corporate Rules for Controllers and Processors.
Regularly assisting clients during data breaches and handling data breach notifications with regulators and data subjects.
Training employees working with personal data on privacy principles and data security.
Regularly advising clients on data protection strategies and compliance, including privacy impact assessments, compliance analyses and contact with regulators.
Drafting and negotiating data processing agreements and intra-group data transfer agreements and developing cross-border data transfer strategies.
Assisting clients in the use of health data and matters concerning health data issues.
Advising on and implementing data retention projects, involving more than 20 countries.
Advising clients in privacy by design matters and accountability issues.
Drafting and negotiating license agreements, including IT contracts, such as for software development companies.
