Olaf Schneider advises clients on all issues relating to compliance and corporate governance. Thanks to his many years of experience in various management functions and supervisory board positions in international corporations, he is widely experienced in complex legal and compliance issues.

He focuses his advisory work on the planning and implementation of internal corporate as well as independent investigations, both nationally and internationally. Olaf has notable experience in supporting clients in designing, implementing, and assessing compliance management systems. He also represents companies and their executive bodies before domestic and foreign authorities during associated criminal and administrative proceedings.

Olaf has many years of experience in the area of corporate anti-bribery compliance, especially issues surrounding the enforcement of German anti-corruption laws, the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, as well as other international laws preventing corruption. Olaf also has notable experience in dealing with FCPA monitorships.

Furthermore, Olaf also advises on duties and obligations of executive bodies and board members. 

Before joining Hogan Lovells, Olaf served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Bilfinger. There he established an effective compliance program, which has been certified by an independent compliance monitor appointed by the U.S. Department of Justice which led to the successful conclusion of its monitorship.

Prior to his time at Bilfinger he acted as General Counsel for the industry sector of Siemens and navigated MAN as its Chief Compliance Officer through various material compliance matters. Prior to that he held various management positions at General Electric, e.g. as member of the Managing Board of a group company. He started his legal career with an international law firm.

Representative experience

Conducting an investigation for a financial institute into potentially inappropriate behavior by board members and employees in relation to investment strategies and risk management (Cum/Ex).

Advising a major company from the automotive industry on compliance topics and large scale internal investigations.

Advising an international company in the food industry on an internal investigation around potential violations of around potential violations of EU and US sanctions law.

Advising a globally acting provider of automotive parts on the efficiency of its global compliance program, its internal governance and risk management procedures.
