Miwa Okegawa is an associate in the Intellectual Property (IP) practice in the Tokyo office and a member of the trademark team. She is a Japan-qualified patent attorney (benrishi) and IP litigator.
Miwa’s practice primarily focuses on IP prosecution, and she has extensive experience advising clients on a variety of domestic and international trademark issues, including trademark clearance searches, enforcement of trademark rights, trademark portfolio management, opposition and cancellation proceedings, and filing and prosecution of trademark applications.
Miwa brings significant experience, having worked at both a law firm and a trademark firm in Tokyo for more than 16 years.
She obtained her B.A. in English Literature from Tsuda University and is fluent in both Japanese and English.

Advising a well-known Japanese electronics manufacturer and its affiliated companies on their global trademark portfolio and trademark protection strategies in multiple jurisdictions worldwide.
Assisted a well-known Japanese electronics manufacturer in connection with a non-use cancellation trial in Malaysia.
Advising a well-known Japanese food company on its trademark portfolio throughout Asia, including trademark prosecution and enforcement strategies in China.
Advising multiple well-known Japanese and international clients in the food & beverage, finance, and life sciences sectors on their trademark strategy and use, prosecution, and registration in Japan.
Assisting a well-known pharmaceutical company on enforcement of its trademarks, including sending warning letters of possible trademark infringement.
