Hogan Lovells strengthens antitrust offering with addition of Elai Katz in New York

Press releases | 04 June 2026

New York – Global law firm Hogan Lovells announced today that Elai Katz has joined the firm as a partner in the Antitrust, Competition and Economic Regulation practice area based in our New York office. Katz joins the firm from McDermott Will & Schulte.

A Chambers Band 1-ranked antitrust lawyer, Katz brings three decades of experience representing clients in New York–centric industries including financial services, insurance, healthcare, e-commerce, and technology.

“We are pleased to welcome Elai to Hogan Lovells,” said Janice Hogan, Practice Group Leader – Global Regulatory & IP. “His work across regulated industries, including financial services, will be invaluable as we look to integrate with our future colleagues as Hogan Lovells Cadwalader, and continue to provide our clients with incredible service at the intersection of finance, business, and government.”

Katz guides his clients’ transactions through regulatory hurdles in the United States and internationally with a record of achieving quick and positive resolutions during the early phases of merger reviews. He advocates for clients in a variety of antitrust disputes, including complex class actions alleging price fixing and monopolization, as well as matters involving distribution arrangements and price discrimination. He also helps clients identify and mitigate antitrust risks in joint ventures, trade associations, information-sharing platforms, and in their marketing, pricing and distribution practices.

“Elai is joining the firm at the perfect moment, and we are thrilled to have him,” said Logan Breed, Practice Area Leader – Antitrust, Competition and Economic Regulation. “Antitrust remains an incredibly busy practice, and we expect this trend to continue for the foreseeable future. In particular, the litigation side of our antitrust practice has experienced phenomenal growth in demand in recent years, and Elai will slot right in as a key asset for our clients. We expect our New York antitrust practice to emerge as a premier destination for sophisticated antitrust advice and advocacy under Elai’s leadership, extending the success we have achieved across key markets worldwide.”

“The firm’s New York office is undergoing significant growth as we become Hogan Lovells Cadwalader, and Elai’s arrival is a welcome addition as we continue to strengthen our presence in New York” said Martha Steinman, Office Managing Partner – New York.

Katz added: “It is a compelling time to be an antitrust lawyer, especially at Hogan Lovells, soon to be Hogan Lovells Cadwalader. This is a combination of storied firms with distinguished histories in antitrust, and I am honored and energized to join at this pivotal moment. I look forward to helping strengthen one of the most comprehensive global regulatory platforms in the world. And my clients gain a real advantage in navigating global antitrust risk with a unified, seasoned, cross-jurisdictional team offering deep experience and creative problem-solving.”

Katz received his J.D. from Columbia Law School and his B.A. from Yale University. At the start of his legal career, he clerked for Justice Mishael Cheshin of the Supreme Court of Israel.
