Susan began her career as a Tax Certiorari attorney at the New York City Law Department, where she managed a large, complex caseload from inception to trial. She was promoted to Supervising Attorney, a role in which she led a team of attorneys and assessors for several years before entering private practice as a Tax Certiorari attorney in the real estate department at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP.
Susan represents major commercial and residential real estate properties. She oversees every aspect of the Article 7 Tax Certiorari process, including filing applications, preparing detailed analyses for the New York City Tax Commission, filing petitions and appearing in New York State Supreme Court and at the New York City Law Department in pre-trial matters. Susan has successfully negotiated significant assessment reductions for numerous properties before both the New York City Tax Commission and the New York City Law Department. She also prepares sophisticated budgets and tax projections for commercial and residential clients seeking abatements, exemptions or other tax benefits.
Susan regularly authors articles addressing timely topics in New York real estate, including most recently on property tax reform and the pied-a-terre tax.
