Katie Barton’s practice is predominantly concerned with multi-jurisdictional patent litigation across the technology, telecommunications and life sciences sectors. Katie has previously worked with international clients and experts on long-running disputes relating to blockbuster drug patents and standard essential patents. Her experience includes proceedings in the High Court (Patents Court) and Court of Appeal.

Katie advises clients on both assertion of patents and defence against infringement claims. In the pharmaceutical sector, Katie has worked on multi-jurisdictional invalidity proceedings. She has also acted for international clients in relation to the recovery of damages regarding patents relating to raw materials and power systems.

Katie graduated from King’s College London before completing her training at Hogan Lovells. Katie undertook seats in Banking and Loan Finance, Intellectual Property, Mergers & Acquisitions and International Arbitration.

Representative experience

Acting for Astronics in a patent dispute concerning its products.

Advising a Japanese multinational pharmaceutical company on issues relating to opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office concerning its patent for a cancer therapeutic.

Acting for BMS in defending the formulation patent on its apixaban blockbuster.

Acting for Anan Kasei in relation to recovery of damages around its metal oxide product.
