Alaa Salaheldin advises domestic and foreign companies across industry sectors on a broad range of data privacy and cybersecurity matters, including incident response, crisis management, related investigations and litigation, privacy assessments, privacy program development, and related policy matters. 

Alaa has experience with federal, state, and international privacy and cybersecurity laws, including the U.S. state privacy laws (such as the CCPA and CPRA), state data security and breach notification statutes, EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and federal and state unfair, deceptive, and abusive trade practices laws.  

Prior to joining the firm, Alaa worked in the privacy and cybersecurity practice of a large global law firm. 

Representative experience

Represented large financial institution in cybersecurity-related investigation brought by the New York Department of Financial Services and the New York Attorney General.* 

Advised global insurance company in a multi-country cyber extortion attack and resulting regulatory investigations.*

 

Counseled multi-national medical waste and data disposal company in cyber incident involving the compromise of hundreds of O365 accounts and resulting investigations.*

 

Advised and represented U.S. university in successful resolution of claims relating to alleged cyber attack on virtual currency managed service provider.*

 

Advised foreign government office on Fourth Amendment, ECPA, and CLOUD Act issues relevant to a proposed mandatory content monitoring law.*

 

Advised clients on operationalizing requirements under the U.S. state privacy laws.*

 

Managed global privacy reviews implicating data privacy laws in over 80 jurisdictions.*
