Senal Ranatunga helps clients navigate complex cross border projects. His practice focuses on representing lenders and developers in structuring, negotiating, documenting and implementing domestic and international project financings, corporate financings and asset financings.

Senal has experience advising multilateral institutions and financial institutions in intricate development and financing transactions that focused on infrastructure, telecommunication and renewable and traditional energy projects in emerging markets. He has successfully closed transactions in many of the countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Senal began his career as a Summer Associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Hogan Lovells and takes pride in being actively involved in diversity, equity and inclusion efforts with a focus on mentoring first generation attorneys and law students. Senal also enjoys his pro bono initiatives on animal welfare matters and advising startup businesses through the Small Business Legal Clinic of Washington, D.C.

Representing FMO and DEG with respect to General Energy Solutions' US$38M financing of the Monte Plata Solar plant in the Dominican Republic

Representing IFC, ADB, and DEG with respect to financing of gas-fired power plant in Armenia

Representing DFC with respect to US$100M corporate financing to a telecommunication corporation for expansion of its mobile network and related IT operations in multiple jurisdictions in Africa

Representing developers in connection with development financing to develop a pipeline of solar, solar plus storage and stand-alone storage projects across multiple regions*

Representing bidders with respect to purchase of a portfolio of renewable energy companies with a purchase price of over US$1bn*

Representing HSBC Bank USA with respect to financing a portfolio of solar projects in the State of Maine*

Representing Lenders (including Siemens Financial Services), with respect to a construction loan, an equity bridge loan and term loan to Rodeo Ranch Energy for BESS facilities in Texas*

Representing MicroVest Short Duration Fund, LP with respect to impact investment financing to SA Taxi Impact Fund (RF) Proprietary Limited*

DFC on a US$300m debt facility to BTG Pactual, the largest investment bank in Latin America, to allow BTG Pactual to expand its SME activities in Brazil

IDB and IDB Invest on a US$285.5m secured financing to Ecuadorian consumer company Corporación Favorita C.A. to support the development of new projects and to streamline production

IFC and Proparco on the financing of a large mixed use real estate development in Kigali, Rwanda.
