Hogan Lovells Privacy Practice Honored With “Team of the Year” Award by Chambers

Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that its Privacy and Information Management practice has been named “Privacy & Data Security Team of the Year” by Chambers USA.

Hogan Lovells was bestowed with the accolade at the Chambers USA Awards Ceremony and Dinner at Cipriani in New York City on 19 May.

The awards honor the work of national and international law firms across the region on the basis of research for the 2015 edition of Chambers USA. They recognize a law firm’s pre-eminence in the United States. They also reflect notable achievements over the past 12 months including outstanding work, impressive strategic growth, and excellence in client service.

The Privacy group was recognized for its cutting-edge work on matters, including:

• serving as lead counsel for The Home Depot with respect to its publicly-reported data security breach.

• conducting an internal data privacy review of Uber’s privacy program in response to public criticism of its practices; the resulting report in its entirety was published by Uber on the company’s blog.

• serving as lead counsel for Anthem on its publicly-reported breach.

• advising a major Silicon Valley company on the privacy issues related to health privacy and wearables.

• representing a number of automobile manufacturers with respect to privacy issues arising from connected car technologies.

• acting as counsel to the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, for whom we drafted a set of privacy principles for Connected Cars that have been adopted by manufacturers selling 91% of automobiles sold in the United States.

• leading a high profile cross-industry effort on and authored public comments that significantly influenced the privacy section of the influential NIST Cybersecurity Framework; and
  representing a number of clients in confidential and significant investigations by the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general.

Over the past year, the Privacy group recruited London partner Eduardo Ustaran and his team of six practitioners from Fieldfisher, and added Washington, D.C. counsel Katherine Armstrong, a 30-year veteran of the Federal Trade Commission.

Hogan Lovells’ Privacy and Information Management (PIM) Practice also received its fifth consecutive Band 1 ranking by Chambers USA and its fourth consecutive Band 1 ranking by Chambers Global. PIM co-director Christopher Wolf  has maintained his ranking as a “Star Individual” and is noted by Chambers as a “global expert on privacy.” PIM co-director Marcy Wilder has maintained her top-tier ranking and is cited as having “unparalleled expertise and a very practical, solution-oriented approach to regulatory compliance.” Eduardo Ustaran, PIM’s key contact in London, has also been named a “Star Individual” by Chambers UK and is praised for his “depth of knowledge.”
