Hogan Lovells hosted the second annual Health Privacy Law Forum (HPLF) for health privacy professionals yesterday.  Participants spoke with Deven McGraw, Deputy Director of Health Information Privacy at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR), and former Federal Trade Commissioner (FTC) Julie Brill, now a partner at Hogan Lovells and co-chair of its Privacy and Cybersecurity practice.

Attendees from the health and technology industries heard from OCR on the upcoming Phase 2 HIPAA audits, as well as on recent OCR enforcement action.  Attendees engaged in a discussion on digital health and the many regulatory agencies engaged in the oversight of organizations that maintain health information.  Forum attendees also discussed best practices related to breach preparedness and response within the dynamic and evolving cyber threat landscape, as well as opportunities for information-sharing in order to best combat increasingly sophisticated attacks.

Hogan Lovells hosted the forum on the eve of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Global Privacy Summit and the IAPP Privacy Bar’s inaugural meeting, where many Hogan Lovells attorneys will be speaking on privacy and cybersecurity topics including health, big data, FCC enforcement, and international trade agreements.
