Press releases | 26 January 2023

Denver, 25 January 2023 —   Global law firm Hogan Lovells will host its 17th annual Practical Skills program at the firm’s Denver office on Friday, January 27, 2023. The program provides diverse law students the opportunity to engage in mock interviews and learn from leaders in the legal industry.

This year’s program is set to include a record setting number of law student registrants, three special guest panelists, and more than 20 Hogan Lovells lawyers engaging in interactive content.

Led by the Denver Diversity Committee chairs, partners Ana Gutiérrez and Russell Hedman, attendees will participate in mock interviews, practice-specific breakout groups with Hogan Lovells lawyers, and a Q&A session with distinguished leaders from across the legal industry. Students will receive invaluable insights from government, in-house, and private practice professionals.

The panel, moderated by Jodi Scott (Partner, Hogan Lovells), will include two Hogan Lovells alumni:

Tim Aragon, General Counsel, Denver Broncos (former Denver Office Managing Partner)

Justice Monica Márquez, Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court

Stevie DeGroff, Assistant Attorney General, Data Privacy and Cybersecurity, Colorado Attorney General’s Office (former Hogan Lovells Associate)

Max Silvestre, Senior Associate, Hogan Lovells.

The discussion will cover a range of topics including navigating growing pains early in a legal career, best practices for professional skills development, and work/life balance.

The Practical Skills Program hosts diverse law students from the University of Denver, University of Colorado, and University of Wyoming who will have completed one year of law school (or a part-time program equivalent) by the summer of 2023. Several attendees will be applying for a clerk position with the Summer Diversity Clerkship Program managed by the Colorado Pledge to Diversity Legal Group.
