EU-UK Spotlight: Renewables, trade, and the global supply chain
Building on the success of a pilot program held last year, the two‑week challenge saw participation from 15 offices across Europe and Johannesburg, with colleagues volunteering time to help digitize and preserve records documenting the victims and survivors of National Socialism.
Through the #everynamecounts initiative, volunteers transcribe historical documents – capturing names, dates of birth, and other key information – to help make the identities of the persecuted visible and to contribute to a growing digital memorial. Collectively, Hogan Lovells participants archived 10,100 documents in 2026, adding to the more than 9,800 documents recorded by the firm in 2025, with over 300 colleagues taking part this year (200+ in 2025).
The Arolsen Archives hold the world’s most comprehensive archive on victims and survivors of National Socialism, with information on the fate of approximately 17.5 million people. Recognized as part of UNESCO’s Memory of the World program, the archive is a vital resource for education, research and remembrance worldwide.
Commenting on the initiative, Kerstin Neighbour, partner at Hogan Lovells, said:
“‘Erinnern ist Arbeiten an der Zukunft’ (Remembering is work on the future), as a quote by cultural studies scholar Prof. Dr. Aleida Assmann puts it. In this sense, participating in the Arolsen Archives’ #everynamecounts project has been a very meaningful way for our firm to engage with the communities where we work. Our colleagues across EMEA spent time carefully archiving registration cards of concentration camp prisoners – each card a reminder of the individual lives behind these records, and of the responsibility we carry to remember them. 80 years after the end of the Nazi regime, initiatives like this feel not just historically important, but very relevant today, especially for a firm like ours that firmly believes in the rule of law. We are grateful to the Arolsen Archives for making this kind of meaningful engagement possible.”
By taking part in #everynamecounts, Hogan Lovells continues to demonstrate its commitment to historical responsibility, cultural diversity, and living democratic values.
