Melissa B. Levine

Health information privacy and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) these are matters Melissa Levine knows inside and out, and on which she focuses her practice. She has worked on HIPAA and health privacy issues since 1998, and counsels on a range of related issues, including HIPAA implementation and compliance, development of privacy policies and procedures, HIPAA privacy assessments, breach incidents, and HIPAA structural issues.

Melissa's extensive knowledge of the healthcare system has been an enormous asset to her clients. She helps healthcare companies, device manufacturers, labs, providers, health plans, health information technology companies, and academic medical centers comply with the regulations that impact their products, services, and research. Along with her deep understanding of HIPAA, Melissa is also immersed in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act as well as state privacy and breach notification laws. She also counsels on uses and disclosures of data, data transfers, covered entity and business associate compliance, de-identification, fundraising, and research.

As a senior attorney in our Privacy and Information Management Group, Melissa also assists genomics research companies and manufacturers with their regulatory compliance and HIPAA.
