Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, PJ served with distinction as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Maryland. During his 11 years as an AUSA, PJ was lead trial counsel in multiple cases of public significance, including United States v. Johnson et al., a 10-week racketeering trial against three Baltimore gang members who conspired to murder a witness. PJ also served as Regional Director of DOJ’s Organized Crime & Drug Enforcement Task Force, Chair of the Maryland Prison Task Force, and the District of Maryland’s Criminal Discovery Coordinator.
PJ began his career as a law clerk to Chief Judge Benson E. Legg of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. He also worked for four years at a leading Washington law firm, where he specialized in complex civil litigation and white collar criminal defense.
Defended a medical device manufacturer against allegations that EtO emissions from one of the company’s facilities caused increased cancer risks in surrounding communities.
Served as counsel for Verisk Analytics, a multinational data analytics company, in first-ever MDL relating to the collection of consumer data through “telematics” technology in modern vehicles.
Presented witness testimony and cross-examined cybersecurity experts during successful commercial arbitration for a leading life sciences company.
Representing a multinational food producer in parallel civil and state AG proceedings involving “greenwashing” claims under state consumer protection laws.
Member of trial team that obtained complete defense verdict in dispute between founders of autonomous trucking company in Delaware Chancery Court.
