Dara is of Serbian and Montenegrin origin and is a native speaker of both languages, with previous legal and finance experience in the Balkans. She completed an MSc in the Political Economy of Europe from the London School of Economics and a BA in both Slavic Languages and Literatures and Political Economics from the University of California, Berkeley before undertaking her legal studies in London.
