Matt helps his clients navigate a broad range of matters, including white collar criminal actions, complex civil litigation, and appeals.  He has experience in all stages of litigation, including motions to dismiss, discovery, motions for summary judgment, settlements, and trial.  He has briefed cases at all levels of the federal judiciary, including the U.S. Supreme Court, and in several state courts.

Matt previously served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable John A. Gibney, Jr., in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.  He maintains an active pro bono practice with a focus on criminal defense and immigration matters.

Representative experience

Representing large pharmaceutical company in pending litigation regarding alleged price reporting violations.

Advising health care company as plaintiff's counsel in multimillion dollar breach of contract and fraud dispute.

Authored several certiorari petitions and merits briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court, including Barnes v. Felix, a critical Fourth Amendment case concerning the use of lethal force by police.

Advised large pharmaceutical company in federal investigation of potential kickback policy violations.

Represented a state government in an appeal of a class action lawsuit to the Third Circuit, which upheld the dismissal of the suit.

Provided advice on the constitutionality of international trade actions and agreements.

Secured temporary release from prison for a defendant designated as a career offender.
