Alvin F. Lindsay
Partner, Miami
alvin.lindsay@hoganlovells.com

Alvin Lindsay focuses his practice on the defense of product liability and catastrophic defect claims. For nearly two decades, he has litigated extremely complex cases in United States federal and state courts as well as international courts of arbitration. As lead counsel, he has tried many cases through bench or jury verdict and to final appeal.

Mr. Lindsay has been at the forefront of many of the most significant product liability litigations in recent times, including those involving commercial airline disasters, drywall from China, pharmaceutical products, vaccines, tobacco, medical devices, cosmetics, yachts, automobiles, and consumer goods. He has particular experience in complex class action and multidistrict litigation as well as cases involving international issues.

Mr. Lindsay is skilled at the management and administration of large-scale product liability claims involving numerous claimants, cross-border issues, and discovery challenges. As Co-Chair of the firm's Electronic Information Group and a leader in the field of electronic discovery, he understands that electronic discovery issues are often a critical component of product and international litigation. The Associated Press calls him "an expert in technology and litigation," and The Wall Street Journal quoted Mr. Lindsay extensively in explaining the revisions to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure to encompass electronic evidence.

Beginning in the spring 2011, Mr. Lindsay will be teaching Product Liability as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law, where he has taught Litigation Skills since 2002. Since 2001, he has been the author and editor of the Florida chapter of Product Liability Desk Reference (Aspen).

In addition, Mr. Lindsay is the author of a book and DVD titled Technology In Litigation published by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA). He is also on the faculty of NITA, where he has taught the prestigious National Trial Skills Program in Louisville, Colorado, for two years. He created TechnologyInLitigation.com, named "The Best Legal Research Portal on the Internet."

Law schools, professional institutes, and bar associations frequently invite Mr. Lindsay to speak on topics including Product Liability, Litigation Skills, Complex Case Management, Federal Rules of Evidence, Advanced Civil Discovery, International Discovery, and International Arbitration. He has authored articles published in The National Law Journal, Legal Times, the University of Miami Law Review, and the International Law Quarterly for which he is editor in chief.

While in law school, Mr. Lindsay was editor of the University of Miami Law Review, a Dean's Scholar, and winner of the class-wide moot court competition.
