If you have ever enjoyed the warmth that natural gas provides your home or business, chances are that Stefan Krantz was involved in one way or another in the commercial or regulatory procedures that allowed it to be produced, transported, or consumed. As head of the firm's Energy Regulatory Group, Stefan oversees the U.S. energy regulatory practice across natural gas, oil, nuclear, power, and renewables.
For more than 20 years, Stefan has helped major pipeline companies develop and construct some of the largest natural gas pipeline delivery systems in the U.S. Because many of these pipelines are regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Stefan advises companies on complying with myriad permitting and regulatory requirements pipeline developers and operators face. He helps clients achieve successful, timely development and construction of projects, consistent with regulatory compliance.
Stefan entered the industry as it was being opened to competition and restructured at the federal level. He now helps navigate companies through the shale production boom that has once again reshaped the industry. Stefan has represented large companies in many FERC proceedings, including complex Section 4 and 5 rate litigation, natural gas certificate proceedings, compliance and enforcement proceedings, tariff matters, and rate and discrimination cases under the Natural Gas Act. His acumen is not limited to the regulatory arena; he also serves as project counsel to many companies, advising clients on commercial and transactional matters, including drafting and negotiating precedent agreements, transportation and storage agreements, supply, interconnection, and Operational Balancing Agreements. Stefan has also successfully briefed and argued cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
By understanding the business and industry in which his clients operate, Stefan can collaborate with clients to build a strategy that achieves their commercial objectives. Executing that strategy effectively while handling an increasingly complex regulatory environment is Stefan's hallmark, whether in the project development, complex administrative litigation, compliance, or appellate context.
