As a senior associate in our Corporate Group, Jan Buschmann focuses his practice on insurance companies and other financial institutions. He has advised on a wide range of corporate and finance transactions in that sector, including mergers and acquisitions, transfers of insurance business, letter of credit facilities, longevity swaps, VIF monetisations and transactions in the Lloyd's market.

He also advises insurance companies, banks and other financial institutions on regulatory issues, particularly on regulatory capital requirements and credit risk mitigation under the Solvency II, Basel III and EU Capital Requirements Regulation regimes.

Representative experience

Advising Phoenix Group on the sale of annuity business with liabilities of approximately £5bn to Guardian Assurance Limited.

Advising Equitable Life on the sale of annuity business with liabilities of approximately £875mn to Canada Life.

Advising Prudential on the domestication of its Hong Kong branch business.

Advising Qatar Insurance Company on its acquisition of the Antares group, a leading Lloyd's specialist insurance and reinsurance group.

Advising Enstar on its acquisition of the Atrium group at Lloyd's and Arden Re, a Bermudian reinsurer.

Advising RGA on a €12bn longevity swap with Delta Lloyd.

Advising Pacific Life Re on a £1.5bn longevity swap with the MNOPF pension scheme.

Advising on letter of credit facilities granted to Lloyd's syndicates, including a US$725m facility granted to a leading US insurance group.
