Educated in Australia with double commerce and laws degrees, Valerie understands and is acutely sensitive to her clients' commercial needs.  

Having spent time in our Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong offices, Valerie provides clients with one-stop advice on China and Hong Kong trademark and advertising law matters. Valerie has assisted clients from a range of industries, including consumer, luxury, hospitality, financial services, media and entertainment and telecommunications.  She has extensive experience in the full range of trademark matters, including prosecution, portfolio management, enforcement and litigation.  

Providing comprehensive solutions to clients, Valerie also handles matters involving other Asia Pacific countries and other IP such as domain name complaints, copyright and licensing. 

She also frequently assists clients navigate through advertising, consumer protection and trade descriptions laws in Greater China, balancing commercial realities with risks.

Advising on non-traditional trade mark applications including certification marks.

Advised and successfully negotiated a settlement for a PRC company defending against passing off proceedings in the High Court of Hong Kong.

Clearing advertisements, promotional campaigns and competitions for a leading advertising agency in Asia.

Developing and delivering training for clients on compliance with various China and Hong Kong advertising and consumer protection laws.

Managing and advising on the Greater China trade mark portfolios of international clients.

Successfully recovered a hijacked .CN domain name through DRP proceedings for a foreign company without prior trade mark rights in China.
